Neither blocking cookies nor setting “Do Not Track” is sufficient. The latter is routinely ignored, and the first only prevents some forms of tracking. This was a matter of principle, in exercising my (our) rights. If these rights are unnecessary (I don’t think they are), then they should be removed from the books. Indeed, some companies do spend a lot of time and money ensuring compliance, and I don’t see why they should be disadvantaged.
